Yarrow

Yarrow is a perennial new to me that  I am trying this year, it is a flowering herb.  Doing some research it was also used by Native Americans as a wash for sunburns and can be used to treat stress.

I have planted three plants in my rock garden, going to watch it close and see how it does.

Yellow is a favorite color of mine and yellow  is repeated several places in my yard.

Keep turning up that dirt!!

Summer fun

Summer fun MANY years ago, me in the middle of my sisters at the time. You will notice this was 62 years ago, but who's counting.

Looks like we are enjoying Vess Pop, anyone remember Vess?  I'd love to still have that table and chair set!!!

My current summer in 2017 has been busy planting new perennials and grooming my gardens. Some fresh paint here and there too.

Some bright yellow paint.

New Poppy plants.

Hybrid Miranda Lambert Hybrid Tea Rose

Been watering early in the mornings--the heat is getting pretty hot here.

Winky Dink and You

Something fun to remember today about my childhood.  In the 1950's there was a children's show called "Winky Dink and You".  I can remember watching it on Saturday mornings and playing along with Winky Dink.

The host was Jack Barry and he along with Winky would create stories for us to solve.  Bill Gates applauds this show as the first interactive TV show.

You had to actually order a special packet with a vinyl plastic sheet included  that would stick to the TV screen to play along.  You would trace on the screen to attach whatever you needed to help solve the story.  I can't remember is special markers came with it.

Many kids wrote directly on the TV screen to their parents horror!! (my husband says he was one of them).

From Wiki:
Most of the TV sets were 17" and of course black and white.

The show lasted until the end of the 1950's many were afraid of what affects the TV tubes would have with X-rays on the viewers.

So many fun shows back then, I long to see more wholesome subjects for today's youth but I'm afraid that video games are here to stay---we just have to be vigilant watching what they are playing.

Variegated

Variegated is an adjective in foliage means having or consisting of leaves that are edged or patterned in a second color.  Multicolored plants are my favorite and they usually catch my eye at the nursery.

These are some of my yard plants that are variegated this year.

A trusted Lillium which comes back prettier every year.

This Coleus is in a planted box on my front porch. I love the ruffled edges.

I also love a VARIETY of color in one plant.  You get that with Rose Moss which hangs in metal planters on a brick wall in the front.

I love the soft pink, violets and oranges in this plant.
